A Cappella News
Quotes from A Cappella Induction on November 3

“Look around for just a second - these people around you all share the same love for music. This is our family and this is our home just because things look different this year doesn't mean we can’t still be a family and create amazing music.” ~ Logan D.

“One primary notion that I find about this special group is devotion… a unique dedication that every single one of us shares… derived from the genuine connection we all have to music making.” ~ Lauryn W.

“The power each individual holds is the foundation of how choir becomes a strong being… In unity, the power choir has to spread messages and bring joy into people’s lives is unbelievable. Unity is power. Unity is family. Unity is love.” ~ Laiba P.

“Motivation allows us to come to class everyday and work on what really inspires and moves us, which is music. We can come together and focus on singing a beautiful piece we are passionate about. During this difficult and crazy time we must unite and check up on one another to help everyone not only stay motivated but have good mental health.” ~ Marissa J.

“There’s no judgement, there’s no pressure, only people that deeply care about each and everyone of you and want to see you succeed.” ~ Lanai W.

“I realized that this choir is far more than just a musical unit… we are a family.” ~ Maria W.

CHOIR FUNDRAISER
Before the pandemic, fundraising for the choir program involved putting on a carwash and selling things like cookie dough and poinsettias. This year, we are pleased to be working with 99pledges.com, headed up by our own Choir Booster Board. All the money raised directly benefits the students!! There is no amount that is too small. Donations help pay for:
  • Uniforms and costumes
  • Music and sound equipment
  • Accompanist
  • Scholarships
  • Financial aid for voice lessons

We launched the fundraiser on Wednesday and are already doing quite well. And the students are in a race of their own. Let's keep the momentum going!!!

Traditional School begins on Tuesday, September 8, 2020!
Mrs. A and I are thrilled that we will finally be meeting some of you face-to-face in just a few short days. Whether you are coming back face-to-face (f2f) or remaining online-only (OLO), here are some things that you need to know.

1 - We will be using Canvas all year.
Both f2f and OLO students will continue to use computers for choir. Traditional students must bring a fully-charged computer to school each day. We highly suggest bringing your charger too. If you are in need of a computer with a working camera and microphone, the school still has several available.
2 - We will be wearing masks at all times while at Bell High School.
You must have your mask on to enter the building. If you have more than one mask available, stash an extra one in your backpack for the days you might forget.
3 - We will be singing with both masks and face shields in choir.
We are supplying every choir student with a face shield. There will be a 30-minute block of singing time when all choir members will wear their face shield over their mask in keeping with CDC guidelines for singers. These shields break down into 2 pieces and can be stored (sort of) in their choir music binder.
4 - Every choir member will receive a music binder!
Traditional students will receive their folders in class on Tuesday. Virtual students may come to the school on Wednesday, September 9, between 4:15-5:00 pm for a drive-thru pick-up event. Mrs. A and I will be set up near the blue dumpsters by the band hall for our OLO students to swing by and pick up their music. Be sure to wear a mask and roll down your window!
5 - Choir is a participation class!
Each student will receive a daily grade of 20 points for participation in choir, for a total of 100 points per week.
For traditional learners, this means you must not forget your music binder, mask, face shield, or computer. All of these items will go home with you every day and must come back with you the following day. If a choir member does not have the required mask and shield, they will not be allowed to sing and thus cannot receive points for participation. If you do not have your computer, you will not be able to do your computer assignments such as SmartMusic and Canvas.
For virtual learners, we need to see you participating in our online class. That means your video is on, there is light on your face, your microphone is enabled, and you are following the same directions as the in-person class. ie - When we stand, you stand, etc. If we cannot see you engaging in learning, you cannot receive points for participation.
*NOTE - if your device does not have a working microphone or camera, please contact the school!
6 - Virtual Choir Students ARE INVITED to come to campus for your choir class.
  • Beginning September 8, Bell System OLO members are invited to attend during 5th period.
  • All other choir OLO choir members are invited to attend during their choir class beginning September 14. More info to follow.
7 - Bring water!
Only water is allowed in choir - and you will certainly need to hydrate! The public drinking fountains are turned off and vending machines are empty.

Online Learning will continue for virtual students using Google Meet!

CONGRATULATIONS MRS. LINDBERG!
We are very pleased to announce that Mrs. Lindberg will be returning as the BHS assistant choir director. This was the plan all along, but we are thrilled to sign the paperwork and make it “official.” Mrs. Lindberg has settled in at Bell so easily, it is hard to imagine choir without her! We are looking forward to a FULL year with you!
CHOIR BANQUET
SAVE THE DATE: Online Choir Banquet ~ Friday, May 15 at 7:00pm. The choir officers are planning an online banquet.  They are hoping for a hybrid live and linked platform. Stay tuned for more information. And YES! You should plan to wear a “banquet worthy” outfit!
CHICAGO UPDATE
Chicago update - no news - Our tour company is working diligently on recouping any funds they can on our behalf. We understand the timeline may stretch into months, if ever, before we see any refunds. Please be sure we have good contact information for you. We will be updating periodically throughout the summer.
BELL SYSTEM AUDITIONS
Bell System Auditions: These will be virtual auditions this year. Winter TRI has begun!
That means it is time to start thinking about SHOWTIME 2020, held on Friday, January 31 and Saturday, February 1. Here is an opportunity to get involved starting now:

Dear Choir Families,

Each year during our biggest concert, Showtime, the choir hosts a Silent Auction to raise funds for The Choirs of L.D. Bell. This school year the auction will be held on Saturday, February 1st, 2020.

We need your help! If you own a business, work for one, or know someone connected to an organization that can donate items or services for the auction, please consider partnering with us to include those items in the auction. We would love donations from places like...

Your favorite:
Restaurants,
Bakeries,
Nail Salons,
Yoga Studio,
Retail Shops,
and more.

We are also hoping to include travel themed baskets in the auction from:

Hotels,
Restaurants, and
Entertainment Venues within and outside of the DFW area.

During previous years, we have also had several choir families donate homemade LD Bell Choir themed quilts, pillows, tote bags, jewelry, signs, and more. These are always beloved and highly sought after items. So if you have sewing or crafting skills, please consider donating your time to create items for the auction.

If you are willing to help, have any ideas, or connections to individuals or organizations that might be willing to donate, please contact one of the silent auction co-chairs to let them know how to obtain the items.

All contributors to the silent auction will receive 2 free tickets to Showtime and recognition in the Showtime concert program.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Jennifer Jones and Alicia Binkley
